New Project

I always have the best conversations with my friend Sharon anytime we get together for coffee, which we do too rarely.

Based on a topic from our latest meeting, I’ve started to assemble a list of people who either are, or are not afraid of clowns. It’s available here.

Please feel free to update this spreadsheet if you have something to add. (Anyone should be able to edit this list). I’ll present the results here if we come up with anything interesting.

For the record – I am not afraid of clowns.

i love clowns, originally uploaded by bunchofpants.

So far I’ve noticed evil people seem to be afraid of clowns, and good people are not. Let’s see if it trends this way. (Please don’t let this observation affect how you feel about clowns. I think honesty is important here.)

Thought Du Jour

“Don’t worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you’ll have to ram them down people’s throats.”

Pirates!

Here is some press for our Pirate show this Saturday at the theater in North Adams.  Nice that we got a little piece in the Times Union:

‘Pirates!’ to appeal to young Berkshire audiences

Meet Me In The Redroom

I recently contributed a post on the doings of Nutshell Playhouse to the great new Main Street Stage blog: Meet Me In The Redroom, curated by the incomparable kellinewby

The theme of the blog seems to be a behind-the-scenes look at theater-making at MSS.  Kelli has already written a number of interesting pieces on past productions as well as the upcoming Twelfth NightCheck it out!

Half-Brother Twins

I didn’t realize this was possible:

Twins have two dads

Eleven months ago, Mia Washington of Texas gave birth to two boys, seven minutes apart. Her fiancé noticed that the youngsters did not look alike, so the couple brought them to a DNA lab in Dallas, where they were found to be half-brothers. The rare double conception came about because, Ms. Washington admitted, she cheated on her boyfriend. Dr. Hilda Hutcherson, a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Columbia University, told NBC’s Today show: “What’s so interesting is that a sperm can last for up to five days. So a woman can have sex with one man on one day and then several days later have sex with another man, and those sperm are still alive in her reproductive tract so they just kind of hang out there waiting for the egg to be released.”

Twelfth Night! Update – I Quit!

If you read my post about being cast as Orsino in Twelfth Night you perhaps were wondering “How can he possibly do a good job at that role when he has so much other stuff going on?  Plus, his tone doesn’t sound too enthusiastic.”  Not to put words in your mouth (or brain).

Well – you were right in saying or thinking that, and I finally realized it myself.  So, I dropped out of the show.  And I feel a lot better, gotta say.

Lex is Feste in the show, so it’s just kinda crazy having both of us do this.  People have said they would help with child-care arrangements to allow us both to be in it – but I don’t want to shuffle E around if we don’t have to, and the role is especially good for Lex, so I’m cool with bowing out.

I do regret not being able to work with such a great cast.  There are some terrific actors in this production – and I was really looking forward to getting to know them and playing with them.

But, dude, my schedule this summer is nuts – with Nutshell Playhouse stuff as well as RBIT, plus we’re going on vacation in July,  plus keeping Elliot busy and having fun, plus my day job (which is getting annoyingly demanding lately – and making me skip town at a moment’s notice) it’s just too much.  This way, I still have a full plate but I’m not panicked.  Happy to be here, thanks!

Now I can spend all my free time trying to find the Social Studies section on the craptastically redesigned Globe and Mail dot com.
