This is turning into a huge, emotional thing. Frankly, I kept a couple of his quotes around and looked at them every other day.

Some of the other quotes I reference for inspiration or encouragement come from guys like, I dunno, Socrates. And then there’s Steve Jobs. He is the most inspiring industrialist of our time. I don’t ordinarily find industrialists all that inspiring – but this guy was just insanely great, right?

I quoted Steve in my last post about him stepping down as CEO. Here’s another one, again from his Stanford commencement address:

“For the past 33 years I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself, ‘if today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today. And whenever the answer has been ‘no’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”

There are some truly mind-blowing quotes from his Stanford commencement address in there. Notably:

I realize it goes without saying but it’s been quite a while since I’ve posted here. So long, in fact, that I considered not updating the domain when prompted to. But something made me keep it and I’m glad I did.

It’s just been such a frigging rotten winter. This year’s winter has cast a pall of depression and ineptitude on many of us Berkshire-ites, making our hands and brains weak from lack of sunlight and shoveling the frozen, white shiat.

It’s made me far too weak and weary for blog posts in addition to everything else. “Everything else” has kept me really busy and, in many cases, has brought me a lot of joy.

For one thing, my second son Samuel was born in July 2010, which means he’s coming up on nine months old now. Yeah – I know! And Elliot is near 5 now. Which is crazy. And I have a new job, in Pittsfield; on the job since August. And a few other big and several other little bits of news to share. Like, I’ve been trying to be consistent on how many spaces I type between sentences.

For now, I must away again. But I’ll return soon.
